Tower of Joy - Fanart

Here is my first Fanart for "A Song of Ice and Fire" by George R.R. Martin.
The Tower of Joy was always one of my favorite scenes and I wanted to get a shot at it before it might appear in season 6. It shows Eddard Stark´s memory of an event in the rebellion, which is still haunting him. He and his bannermen are trying to free his sister Lyanna, who is guarded by three legendary knights of the kingsguard.

"The City of Dreaming Books" Graphic Novel

Some of you will already know about this, but I have never made an official announcement on my own blog. For more than two years I have been working on an Graphic Novel adaption of Walter Moers "The City Of Dreaming Books". The story will be published in two books with each about 100 pages.
Walter Moers is writing the text and also drawing a pencil sketch for each page and I have the pleasure to paint the final illustrations. We already made good progress, but there is also a lot of work left.

Today I can show you the first preview image, Hildegunst von Mythenmetz´s arrival in Buchhaim, one of the large spreads of the comic.

For more information (in german) visit the official page zamonien.de or Comic Kladde. The blog is run by Philipp Spreckels and he met me some days ago for an interview about the comic and the colored book of "Käpt'n Blaubär". Link to part 1 and part 2.

Die 13 1/2 Leben des Käpt'n Blaubär

Welcome back to my blog.
It has been dead for a while now, but it is time to change that! : )

I want to start with "Die 13 1/2 Leben des Käpt'n Blaubär". The fantasy novel by Walter Moers was just re-released as a gorgeous new color-edition. I had the great honour to colorize the inward illustrations.

One highlight of the book is the new map of Zamonia, which is used as endpaper. The drawing by Walter Moers is crazy detailled and I had quite some fun to add the colors.

You can get an extract of the book at amazon.de.

Stay tuned!

The Heroes of the Valley

It has been quite some time since my last post, but today I can show you a very special painting: It is a collaboration with Jakob Eirich and Simon Kopp. One of us just started to paint some abstract shapes, then passed it to the next and after 23 steps we got this piece. It was really fun!

And sorry for the long break. I will show you some new stuff soon.

"Im Bann der Hexer" was finally released.
A couple of days ago I got my specimen copies and I am very happy with the quality of the print.

I hope you like it!

Dreamscape

This is my entry for the CG Challenge "Dreamscape". It has been a great challenge for me indeed, since I
did not paint a detailed image in a long time. But it has also been great fun to to work on it and relive some memories of my school years I spent daydreaming and drawing on paper, books and tables.

You can view some steps of my progress on cgsociety.

Im Bann der Hexer

I am happy to announce that my first comic book "Im Bann der Hexer" will be published as a German hardcover edition in April. The story is based on an original Iroquois legend and was written by Alexander Berger. You can find some pages on my homepage.

As a preview the comic magazine "Comix" publishes the entire story in four parts over the next four issues,
including a small "making of" in the current issue. I took a few pictures of some of the pages:

The Wormworld Saga - Fanart

At the end of 2010 Daniel Lieske released the first chapter of his Online Graphic Novel "The Wormworld Saga". The artwork and storytelling is just great...don´t miss it! My first painting this year is a fanart for his story and shows the main character, Jonas Berg, and the firelord.

Weekly Challenge Result

As the winner of the last "weekly challenge" of the digitalartforum I was allowed to set up a new task. So i painted a background, an old harbour, and asked the participants to fill it with a character of a historic whaling crew. A lot of funny and nice characters came up and at the end I arranged all of them in front of the background.
Thanks everyone for the great contribution!

Some more rough ideas for the Conterra project:
Three mercenaries, a guardsman on his mount and the high council.

Mika at the Frankfurt Book Fair

Here comes a little addition to the release of "Mika´s Adventure". At the Frankfurt Book Fair there was a booth, where zuuka! presented Mika next to two more iPad Apps. Here´s a youtube link to a tv segment about the app and another one to a promotion video, which shows a little part of the app.
